| Movember | Movember. What you need to know...
1. I would love to know your general opinion on the moustache, Fabulous/ Terrible? Which influential people are regarded for their moustaches and so on.
The moustache, as an ornamental facial style, moves in and out of a fashion cycle in the same way as perhaps the hairy chest. It‘s a ‘like it or loathe it‘ style.
Whilst it doesn‘t suit everybody, it can help a man look more distinct if it is worn the right way and if it suits his face shape and attire.
Notable moustache wearers include Tom Selleck, Freddie Mercury, Albert Einstein and Adolf Hitler. Each of these men had a very distinctive look which added significantly to their character.
2. What exactly is the mystique behind the moustache? There is something inherently masculine and ‘old-school’ about a man with a moustache and I wonder what your thoughts on this are.
In many cases, the moustache is a bold statement of masculinity, worn by men whose self-image is important to them, and who believe that wearing their moustache differentiates them from the competition. I would summarise these type of men as ‘Alpha males‘.
3. What would be your tips for updating a moustache for 2011 and keeping it on-trend.
There‘s no particular trend of moustache this year; Rather, it is an individuals‘ unique expression of their personality. Smaller faces suit a smaller moustache whilst a larger face often suits a more theatrical moustache. Either way, it will sometimes take a little experimentation to find out what suits you best.
4. How would you groom a moustache, keeping it looking primped and trimmed?
Moustaches collect food and drink while you eat, so it is important to keep it clean at all times. Wash your moustache with a cleanser from time to time, especially after eating. Additionally, using some hair conditioner and moisturiser after you cleanse helps to keep the hairs softer and less prone to itch.
A trimmer will help keep your moustache in shape along your lip line, whilst shaving the rest of your face with a razor will define the moustache from the rest of your face.
5. What are your favoured moustache styles and shapes (from the handlebar, to the goatee etc)
I don‘t favour any particular moustache. It comes down to who is wearing it, how it looks and how it defines that person.
