The End of Winter

Its now upon us! Longer days and a hint of sunshine and warmth can only mean one thing… Its the end of the long winter hibernation and about time too! Hibernation, drawing the curtains, staying in or whatever you want to call it is probably the biggest annual physical and mental change in your life and just like many of our friends in the animal kingdom, it throws a few changes our way too.

Because of its very short days and long periods of darkness, winter often makes it difficult to get up in the morning, can make us more prone to infection and can even make some people feel quite depressed if they suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder.

With the longer spring days and increased sunlight however, our skin produces more vitamin D which research suggests may help maintain a healthy immune system and help regulate cell growth. It also promotes the absorption of calcium which helps to form and maintain strong bones. Spring reawakens us and these biological changes in the body can give rise to the notion of a spring clean which helps us prepare for a new beginning.

Whilst you may be thinking of restarting your exercise plan by spring cleaning the office or the garage, or by getting back into the garden, why not also spare a thought for your body which has been cooped up indoors for most of the winter. Give it some relaxing treats to help it wake up to the spring.

Here are a few enjoyable ideas to consider:

Drink plenty of water: Drinking water brings a multitude of benefits to the body including clear skin, increased mental performance, fewer headaches and fewer long term health problems. Unlike sugary drinks, its also free from calories and the many negative effects of sugar.

Have a therapeutic bath instead of shower: Add some therapeutic mineral salts and essential oils to a bath to increase circulation, relieve muscle pain and cramps, resolve skin complaints, eliminate toxins and promote rest and recovery.

Book in for a relaxing detoxifying lymphatic massage: The lymphatic system is the bodys drainage system for removing toxins and bacteria and is structured like passageways. A lymphatic massage will unblock and restore the lymphatic system, helping to remove your bodys toxins and it can reduce aches, pains and many flu-like symptoms.

Try a reflexology treatment: Reflexology is a natural healing art, based on the principle that there are reflexes on the hands and feet which correspond to each part of the body. By applying pressure to specific areas of the hands and feet, you are in turn increasing circulation and promoting bodily functions to the corresponding parts of the body.

Lymphatic drainage massage and Reflexology treatments are available at Male Grooming Centres nationwide.
